POETICAL BIOGRAPHY OF “OSAGYEFO” DR.KWAME NKRUMAH

Oh wonderful
Born in Nkroful
In the Gold coast
What a clean ball in our goal post

Educated at Achimota School and Lincoln University
A man of great integrity
An educationist and a great philosopher
A man who is always willing to suffer, willing to offer

Himself for the people
This made him earn for himself so many disciples
He encountered the ideas of Marcus Garvey
And became more innovative like William Harvey

He was awarded honorary doctorates by so many universities
He met the Queen
George Padmore and Martin Luther King
And so many other personalities

He returned to Ghana in 1947
With a vision of making Ghana second to heaven
He joined the UGCC as a secretary
And was part of the Big 6
Who were then in a terrible fix
This man has made a tremendous impact on our history

He despise autocracy
Believed in democracy
Hated bureaucracy
And he never exhibited hypocrisy

In 1948, some ex-servicemen protested
Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Odartey were shot dead
The blame came upon Nkrumah's head
So he was arrested

After his release
He disagreed with the British policy
Concerning the containment of swollen shoot disease
He appealed for women at a time when women's suffrage was new to western democracy

He formed the CPP in 1949
Making moves for the British government to resign
British called for the drafting of a new constitution
To be drawn by selected commission

Nkrumah proposed a universal franchise without property qualification
The amendments was rejected by the colonial administration
This rejection
Led to Nkrumah’s call for positive action

For this reason
He was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison,
For treason
The British organized the first General elections to be held in Africa
Though in jail, Nkrumah conquered

He won the election by a landslide
90% of the people were on his side
He was appointed the Ghana's first Prime Minister
The affairs of the nation were giving to him to administer

The motto of his party was Self Government Now
Wow, now one will ask how
At 12 am, March 6.1957
Sad, the British have to be leaving

In his own wisdom
Ghana attained political freedom
He was given the name “Osagyefo“
The antivirus that captures jeefo

These were his words and I quote
"At long last
The battle has ended
And Ghana, your beloved country is free forever"

`God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong
This is our country, right or wrong,
If right, to be kept right and if wrong, to be set right
But we will have to fight day and night for our fundamental human right

It is beginning to be hinted that we are a nation of amateurs
Politically immature
When you tell the truth
They ask for proof

They behave like workaholics
But their intentions are diabolic
Their extravagant lifestyles are symbolic
Cynics

They know the price of everything
But they don’t know the value of anything
I thought politicians were married to the truth
That thought of mine was baseless, I’ve been disproved

I realized, they are couples who live far apart
They don’t have the interest of the nation at heart
Lies are their number 1 counterpart
Looting of state coffers is their sweetheart

PLEASE don’t do what you cannot, Do what you can
You talk of freedom
But you have forgotten that a hungry man not a free man
This nation has been crippled with all sorts of syndromes

The PHD, the WYK, the YHYSWHOW and all sorts of syndromes
Even the Acquire Immune Deficiency Syndrome
60% of this disease is attributed to high cost of condoms
So where is the freedom?

It is true when George Orwell wrote
And I quote “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”
Yes It is really, they are more equal than us
They regulate the price of fuel in my bus

They sit together in parliament and agree on car loans
We lie on the streets and beg them for their crumbs and bones
Tis not necessary to light a candle to the sun
What are teaching your son?
Take this advice
Whatever you do, you will pay a price

It is better to loose elections than to mislead the people
A good leader is the one who is simple and lead by example
And not the one who always thinks of the next election?
Instead of the next generation

Government is too big and important to be left to only politicians
I am calling on you, journalist, scientist, footballers and even musicians
To come on board
Instead of fighting for awards

The best way to suppose what may come is to remember what is past
7th December is approaching fast
The die will be cast
Only one party will win, that is a must
and that party is the thumb

INTRODUCTION

“Having been a voracious reader from a tender age, I have seen the power that words have to change a person, a nation and the world. The bible, the Qur’an and other books have changed peoples’ perception of the universe, morality, good and evil, sometimes for good, sometimes for evil, but the undeniable fact is the words in those text contains power”.

It is not only in religious text that words hold power. You can recall for yourself the number of times you have been moved to tears by the quality of writing, the sentiments being expressed. Words are powerful and when well chosen have so great a force in them that the description often gives us more lively ideas than the sight of things themselves.

Thinking cannot be clear till it has had an expression. We must write, speak, act our thoughts or they will remain in a half torpid form. Our feelings must have expression, or they will be as clouds, which, till they descend in rain, will never bring up fruit or flower, so it is with all the inward feelings; expression gives them development. The rhymesonny.com is a project that entails the combination of words particularly rhymes (a repetition of identical or similar terminal sound in two or more different words) to reach, teach and preach to this generation about life in the aspect of arts, morality, political, religion, societal issues, sports et al

I always ask this question: how much difference and impact can words stop indiscipline, poverty, corruption, HIV-AIDS, war etc. my conviction has always been yes: and so the beginning of this project. The project is in three parts namely, my word, my voice and my vision. There is linkage between these three parts

MY VISION
MY VOICE
MY WORD

This project is a “bomb” which contains feelings, expressions, thoughts and ideas, language and action and so when it explodes will have a positive effect on each and everyone who comes in contact with the fumes.

MY WORD

My word, the very first part of the project which is in a form of a book contains creative writings (porhymes i.e., combination of poems and rhymes) which will inform, educate and entertain readers about life and its related vices. It also contains pieces of advice and measures to curb if not phase-out completely these vices. It is in four sections:
My faith: which talks about God, his Love, a prayer and a testimony of mine
Societal issues: including topics like The plight of the orphan, Hear my cry, A True story about AIDS, Drug abuse and some rhyming rules for drivers(Taxi driver)
This life: contains inspirational “porhymes” like Civilization, A new day, and Campus life
Rhymicomedy: this aspect of my word contains satiric works

My word also contains the award winning poem “Love”, the first ever poetical biography of the late “Osagyefo” Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and My life as a student.

My word will also be in a form of leaflets and flyers and other readable materials,

MY VOICE

Voice is the outer expression of our inner self. Voice reflects what is unique about us, the way we think and feel. It is an expression of how we view reality and make meaning from our experience.

My voice is link directly to my word; it is the audio version of my word. In my voice, poems like the Poetical biography of ”Osagyefo” Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, The plight of the orphan, My testimony, True story, Drug abuse, taxi driver, love et al. will be voiced in a studio and the end product will be a magnificent piece of art.

It includes hit stories like The Tribute to Danny Whyte, Mothers, ARISE Africa ft Marcus Garvey and Mensa Otabil, Piracy and Payola (policy of gift).

The end product of my voice will be in a form of audio tapes and audio CDs.
My voice is projected to give the visual impaired and those who can’t read, a feel of my word

MY VISION

My vision is the most important part of rhymesonny.com, it contains motion and still pictures which is set to appeal to the understanding of viewers. This aspect seeks to basically educate the very chunk of the populace who has very little or no educational background, in effect my vision is meant for all classes of society
Television not only provides many types of programmes with interesting and broad content, but also serves to fulfil our needs in terms of entertainment and knowledge. It is an integral and vital medium today, which is contributing positively to the education of society.

As TV is a medium that combines moving, colour images and sound, it resembles real life, so the viewers can identify with what they see

Television is one of the medium to be employed for the promotion of my vision.

My vision will take the form of documentaries, drama, live performances and poetical videos. The tracks in my voice will be accompanied by motion and still pictures to become videos and documentaries, some of them will be showcased in a drama and other stage performances

My vision will be presented to the target groups on VCDs, DVDs and Live Shows.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of my poetry are in two-fold. One is to encode a message to allow its oral transmission to other groups, and indeed to other generations with a minimum of erosion of content or meaning.

The poetic form within itself contains codes to assist in memorization and enhancement of accurate transmission to the listener.

The second objective is related to the message itself: to convey emotions, insights, and so forth that the reader may find useful in their personal development, or allows them to reinterpret the text in the light of their own experience.

This last is important in our continuing to find poetry stimulating after many years, or even centuries, when every aspect of the world that provided the context for the poet has changed or disappeared. It's also important in allowing the reader to find poetry accessible in translation.

The main objectives of this project (rhymesonny.com) are:

This thoughtful and credible piece of work has the very vital purpose of causing a very in-depth behavioral change in the life style of the youth and Ghanaians as a whole , since most of the topical issues are directly related to the wrongs of society
To serve as an agent of public sensitization. It would be a medium that would be employed to appraise the general public on socio-political, cultural and educational issues
To make society gain the understanding and appreciation of poetry
This project could also serve as reference and study guide for teachers and students who are deeply rooted in the poetical aspects of literature and arts. Most teachers and students will find this piece of work educative and fascinating
To entertain target groups with good porhymes, satire and rhymicomedy

To raise funds to support various orphanage homes and also to support campaign against some social vices e.g. HIV-AIDS campaigns, Indiscipline etc.
· To reach, teach and preach to everyone about the need to volunteer oneself for your country and to empower, inspire the youth for the future
To bring together poets, comedians, satires, rappers etc. form a poetry club.

Ghana will access the Millennium Challenge account for its agricultural needs
This project shouldn't’t end at just acquiring land and clearing of weeds
This should go beyond researching into new varieties and breeds And also the production of good seeds

I plead
That if you are asked to lead
Don’t delay, don’t get motivated by greed
Go at the required speed

Wherever you find yourself, make an effort
The country needs your support
Let’s work hard and harvest a lot
So we can maximize our exports

And minimize our imports
Ghana deserve to live in comfort
We deserve good roads and better ports
Skyscrapers and better facilities for our sports
